What is rice bran oil

Rice bran oil is the oil that is extracted from the by-products of rice plants. Rice bran oil is extracted from the rice bran. This bran contains many valuable nutrients like vitamins, proteins and lecithin. Alesie rice bran oil is extracted in a special way, we use physical refining. This process has many advantages over chemical refining. Physical refining used no chemicals and in the process lower temperatures are used. This method makes sure that the many good components of the oil, like vitamin e (tocopherol and tocotrienol), are well preserved. Physical refining also gives the oil a much higher quantity of the unique gamma oryzanol.

You can only find the component gamma oryzanol in rice, it is a very health antioxidant that lowers your cholesterol and is also beneficial for your digestion. What makes Alesie rice bran oil unique is the fact that the gammy oryzanol contents (10.000 parts per million) are higher than in any other available rice bran oil.

Why rice bran oil

Rice bran oil has a unique fatty acid profile that makes it the most balanced and versatile plant oil available. Compared to other oils like olive oil, rice bran oil has a much higher smoking point. The smoking point of Alesie rice bran oil is about 255 degrees centigrade. This smoke point makes rice bran oil very suitable for deep-frying, stir-frying or just regular cooking. When oil is heated above its smoking point, harmful matter is released. There is also a loss in flavour. Rice bran oil has a very high smoking point, this makes it much healthier than other oils when cooking with high temperatures.

Alesie rice bran oil has a very mild flavour that makes it an excellent component for any salad. It is also great for deep-frying, because the oil doesn’t stick to the product, because of that the oil will be absorbed less by the food, that keeps the original flavours intact. Rice bran oil helps lowering the bad cholesterol (LDL) and improve the good cholesterol (HDL), this in contrary to other oils that also lower the good cholesterol.

The right mixture of fatty acids is very important within our nourishment. The Dutch information bureau for Margarine, Vetten en Oliën (Margarine, fats and oils) advises everybody to use an oil with less than 5% trans-fat and at least 65% unsaturated fats. Alesie rice bran oil contains 0% trans-fat and about 75% unsaturated fats. Unsaturated fats are also called good fats because they improve your cholesterol, they improve your digestion and stabilise your heart.

The American Heart Association even recommends people to eat 8 to 10% of your daily calories in unsaturated fats. Compared to other rice bran oils, Alesie rice bran oil has the best fatty acid profile.

Compared to other rice bran oils, Alesie rice bran oils in much richer in natural antioxidants. Especially the component gammy oryzanol is very important. Tocopherol and tocotrienol are also natural antioxidants. These components protect the body against ‘free radicals’ like radiation, air pollution, stress and heavy metals. These free radicals can damage your body cells. The fact that rice bran oils has a high concentration of antioxidants, makes it a healthier oil that olive oil for example.

The fact that rice bran oil also has a higher smoking point, makes it a very healthy choice. When an oil is heated to above its smoking point, bad matter is released. Alesie rice bran oil has a higher smoking point that most other oils, that means that less bad matter is released at higher temperatures.

Rice bran oil

The most balanced and versatile oil on the market today. Very balanced and stable thanks to its richness in antioxidants. Rice bran oil is superior for salads, deep-frying, stir-frying and regular cooking. The high smoking point makes the oil more stable at higher temperatures. The light stickiness of the oil makes it so that not much of the oil is absorbed in the ingredients, which caused less calories to be absorbed. Rice bran oil is fit for a cholesterol lowering diet, has many nutrients and contains many natural antioxidants.

Olive oil

Olive oil has a high amount of monounsaturated fats that lower your cholesterol. However, olive oil has a low amount of polyunsaturated fats. These contain the essential fatty acids, the fatty acids that are required for the functioning on the human body. The human body can’t create these on its own. Olive oil also has a low smoking point, this makes it less suitable for stir-frying and deep-frying. Traditionally olive oil is used in salads. Extra virgin olive oil is very expensive and loses a lot of its flavour at high temperatures.

Peanut oil

This oil has a very well balanced fatty acid profile. It also has cholesterol lowering characteristics and its high smoking point makes it suitable for deep-frying. However, the oil has an earthy and nutty flavour, people with a nut allergy can’t use peanut oil. Peanut oil also has less antioxidants than rice bran oil.

Soy oil

This oil has a high concentration of polyunsaturated fats. More than 80% of the total oil consumption in the United States of America is soy oil. There are many genetically muted crops of this produced.

Rapeseed oil

Rapeseed oil is suitable as a deep-frying oil and can also be used in salads. This oil has cholesterol lowering characteristics, because of the amount of unsaturated fats, but has many polyunsaturated fats. In some countries this oil is genetically manipulated.

In comparison to other rice bran oils

Alesie rice bran oil is the rice bran oil with the highest amount of gammy oryzanol, 10.000ppm. Oryzanol is a natural antioxidant that you can only find in rice. Oryzanol is an important component that reduces that bad cholesterol and improves the good cholesterol. Rice bran oil that is produced by other companies also contains oryzanol, but in a much lower extent. This makes Alesie rice bran oil superior.

Alesie rice bran oil is extracted with physical refining. In this process no chemicals are used and the whole process is done with low temperatures. This unique process makes it so that the good components in the oil, like vitamin e and gamma oryzanol, are kept. The production of rice bran oil starts with the rice bran, these contain a small amount of oil. About 15-20% of rice bran is oil. After the oil is extracted from bran, the refining process begins. Different steps are taken to get a unique and healthy product.

Physical refining has many advantages compared to chemical refining. Physical refining uses no chemicals. This is better for the environment but also for the product. By physically refining the oil, the nutrients are preserved in higher amounts. This makes Alesie rice bran oil superior.

At first the unrefined oil goes through a degumming process, after that the colours are removed. Then follows the steam distillation that removes any free fatty acids, scents and volatile substances in 1 step. After this the oil is heated and then refined. This process creates the best quality oils.

Recommended use

  • Deep-frying Rice bran oil has a mild flavour that you don’t really notice in the fried products. The light stickiness of the oil also means that not much of the oil is absorbed into the product, this makes deep-frying in rice bran oil healthier than deep-frying in other oils. French fries that are deep-fried with rice bran oils are crunchy and rich in flavour.
  • Stir-fryingIn Asia many people use rice bran oil for stir-frying. People who use woks, cook with very high temperatures. The high smoking point of rice bran oil makes it really suitable for stir-frying. Even at high temperatures the good characteristics of the oil are preserved and no harmful matter is released. Rice bran oil is the best tasting and healthiest option for stir-frying.
  • SaladsRice bran oil is extremely well suited for salads. The mild flavour doesn´t interrupt with the flavours of the salads, like so many other oils do. Its unique fatty acid profile makes rice bran oil a healthy addition to any salad.
  • CookingCooking also involves high temperatures. When cooking a steak in olive oil, harmful matter is released because the temperatures used are higher than the smoking point of olive oil.
